Anas sustainable infrastructure autonomous driving road technology bitumen alternatives

Anas CEO Claudio Andrea Gemme has announced several strategic initiatives focused on technological innovation and sustainability in road infrastructure. At the Asphaltica trade fair in Bologna, Gemme emphasized the necessity of finding alternatives to rising bitumen costs through the use of recycled waste and alternative materials in bituminous conglomerates.

Anas is currently conducting tests on these sustainable materials, including experimental sections on the 131 Carlo Felice in Sardinia. The company has already updated its technical procurement specifications to permit the use of these new asphalts, pending further safety and toxicological verifications.

Additionally, Gemme proposed a collaboration between Anas and the University of Enna Kore to establish a research and experimentation center for autonomous and connected mobility at the Pergusa racetrack in Sicily. This center aims to leverage university expertise and the racetrack's controlled environment to test autonomous vehicles, sensor systems, and intelligent traffic management.
