Anas sustainable infrastructure and mobility initiatives

Overview

Anas, the Italian road and highway operator, has launched several strategic initiatives focused on technological innovation and sustainability. The company is researching alternatives to rising bitumen costs by testing recycled waste and alternative materials in bituminous conglomerates, including experimental road sections in Sardinia.

To support future transport technologies, CEO Claudio Andrea Gemme proposed establishing a research center for autonomous and connected mobility at the Pergusa racetrack in Sicily in collaboration with the University of Enna Kore.

Furthering its decarbonization efforts, Anas has joined Motus-E, an Italian association for electric mobility. This partnership aims to influence the planning of charging infrastructures. Anas intends to install charging stations within its managed service areas and implement energy-efficient solutions, such as LED lighting and photovoltaic systems, in tunnels.
