Anas reports 22 million vehicle transits during Italian summer holiday rush
During the summer 2026 holiday period, over 22 million vehicles traveled across the Anas road and highway network in Italy. This high volume of traffic occurred during the weekend preceding Ferragosto, marking one of the most intense periods of the season.
Total vehicle transits reached 22,492,917, representing a slight decrease of 1.27% compared to the previous weekend and 1.5% compared to the previous year. However, traffic volumes increased by 1.6% on the southern network, with notable congestion reported on the A2 Autostrada del Mediterraneo and the SS106 Jonica road.
In Calabria, significant traffic was recorded on the RA4 near Reggio Calabria, which saw 99,530 transits. Anas CEO Claudio Andrea Gemme stated that constant monitoring and operational presence allowed for effective management of these flows despite the high demand.
