Greek athletes perform at European Athletics Championships

At the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, Greek athletes achieved notable results despite facing physical challenges.

Antigoni Dritsopioti, the 42-year-old two-time European champion, secured 4th place in the women's marathon race walk with a time of 3:22:16, setting a new Greek national record. This performance came despite her recovering from a rib fracture that sidelined her for 25 days. Fellow Greek athlete Panagiota Chinopoulou finished 5th in the same event. Dritsopioti expressed her satisfaction with the result, noting it was her first marathon and stating, “I am still here for those who want to drive me away.”

In the heptathlon, Anastasia Dragomirova finished 2nd in the shot put discipline with a best throw of 14.98 meters. However, she was forced to withdraw from the 200 meters competition due to a recurring right foot injury that had previously affected her performance in other competitions this season. Her injury left her in 14th place in the overall standings.
