Argentina Supreme Court upholds prison sentence for surgeon Aníbal Lotocki
The Supreme Court of Justice of Argentina has finalized an eight-year prison sentence for plastic surgeon Aníbal Lotocki. The ruling confirms his conviction for fraud and serious injuries inflicted upon four patients: Silvina Luna, Stefanía Xipolitakis, Pamela Sosa, and Gabriela Trenchi.
The court determined that Lotocki used polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres in prohibited areas and in quantities exceeding medical recommendations, causing granulomas and other serious injuries. While the initial 2022 sentence was four years, the Court of Cassation later increased the penalty to eight years and extended his professional disqualification to ten years.
In a separate legal development, a criminal court dismissed three other cases of alleged serious injuries against Lotocki due to the statute of limitations, as the procedures occurred over a decade ago. However, other legal proceedings remain active, including a trial for the death of patient Christian Zárate and ongoing investigations regarding other patients.
