Argentina sentencing of surgeon Aníbal Lotocki

Overview

The Supreme Court of Justice of Argentina has upheld an eight-year prison sentence for plastic surgeon Aníbal Lotocki. The ruling confirms his conviction for fraud and causing serious injuries to four patients: Silvina Luna, Stefanía Xipolitakis, Pamela Sosa, and Gabriela Trenchi. The court found that Lotocki used prohibited quantities of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres, resulting in granulomas and other injuries. The sentence also includes a ten-year professional disqualification.

While three other cases involving alleged serious injuries were dismissed due to the statute of limitations, other legal proceedings remain active, including investigations into the death of patient Christian Zárate. Following the announcement, Argentine deputy Virginia Gallardo, who identified herself as a victim, publicly celebrated the decision on social media, stating she was representing women seeking justice through the legal system.
