Anbil Mahesh denied interim relief in ₹100 crore school fraud case
The Chennai High Court has refused to grant interim relief to former minister Anbil Mahesh in a case involving an alleged ₹100 crore fraud. The case pertains to claims that money was collected from private schools under the pretext of securing permanent recognition, DTCP, and CMDA approvals during the previous DMK administration.
Following complaints from the Private Schools Association, the Chennai Central Crime Branch (CCB) registered a case against Anbil Mahesh and several others, including P.T. Arasukumar and Muthukumar. Police have previously conducted searches at nine locations, including the former minister's residence and offices.
During the hearing, the court noted that granting an interim order to prevent arrest could complicate the legal process regarding the main petition to quash the case. The judge suggested that the petitioner may instead file for anticipatory bail.
