Ancient tea tree population discovered in Quảng Ninh forest

A population of rare, centuries-old tea trees has been discovered within the primordial Quảng Nam Châu forest in Đường Hoa commune, Quảng Ninh province. The discovery occurred in the Tài Chi village area during a forest expedition.

The surveyed tea trees are located at elevations starting around 300 meters above sea level. The largest identified specimen recorded a trunk circumference of approximately 120 cm and a height of nearly 10 meters. These trees grow in a wild, untouched environment characterized by thick moss and lichen, with new generations of tea plants growing naturally under the canopy.

Local officials, including Party Secretary Hồ Đức Quang and Chairman Trần Đức Dũng, participated in the survey. The trees have been numbered and GPS-located to create a distribution map for conservation efforts. This find is seen as a significant milestone for preserving the rare genetic resources of the Đường Hoa tea region, which has been a major tea-growing area in Quảng Ninh since the 1960s.
