Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus hosts first fully accessible performance

The National Theatre of Greece staged Euripides' "Troades" in the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus on 2 August, after the original 31 July premiere was cancelled because of nearby wildfires. Supported by Alpha Bank, the production was adapted for sensory‑disabled audiences, offering Greek Sign Language interpretation, audio description, Braille programmes and assistive listening devices. More than 200 spectators with visual or hearing impairments attended, marking the first time the historic venue was fully accessible.

The performance featured a mixed cast of 22 actors, some with disabilities, and attracted over 8,000 total viewers across two days. organisers highlighted the event as a milestone for cultural inclusion in Greece, pledging further accessible initiatives for future productions.
