Ancona prepares for Piazza Dante construction and parking changes
The city of Ancona is preparing for the commencement of construction in Piazza Dante as part of the ‘Waterfront Ancona 3.0’ project, scheduled to begin on October 1. To mitigate the impact on local traffic and residents, the municipality has established a temporary parking permit system.
Starting September 29, residents of Via Papa Giovanni XXIII, Via delle Rupi Comunali, Via della Loggia, Via Saffi, Via dei Bonda, and Piazza Santa Maria can collect free parking passes from the Local Police front office. These permits allow temporary parking in designated areas within the historic port (near the trattoria) and at the ITIS Nautico institute. To ensure fairness, only one permit will be issued per household, assigned to the primary registered vehicle.
The permits are expected to remain valid until the estimated completion of the works on December 31, 2026. Due to concurrent sewer works causing the closure of the Vittorio Emanuele ramp for four weeks, residents accessing the port area must use the Da Chio archway. Additionally, the Department of Public Works has decided to stagger the start dates for construction in Piazza Dante, the Podio di Palazzo degli Anziani, and the Lungomare Vanvitelli to prevent overlapping disruptions to local mobility.
