Chen Clan members returned to Alto Hospicio after court revokes transfer
A judicial ruling by the Iquique Guarantee Court has revoked the transfer of four members of the Chen Clan to a prison in Talca. The decision returns the individuals to the Alto Hospicio facility.
The four members, identified as Longdi Chen, Wu Chen, Wen Chen, and Ziliang Zhen, are facing charges of criminal association and money laundering. Investigators allege that more than US$180 million is linked to the group's suspected money laundering operations, which are believed to stem from a transnational fraud.
President José Antonio Kast has criticized the court's decision, questioning the authority of Gendarmería to manage high-risk inmates. Kast expressed concern that the ruling undermines security efforts intended to relocate dangerous criminal organizations to more controlled environments.
