Spain regional governments implement new education policies for 2026/27 school year

As the 2026/27 school year begins across Spain, several regional governments are implementing new educational policies and funding measures.

In Andalusia, the regional government has expanded free education for the first cycle of early childhood education (ages 0-3) to include one-year-olds. This measure, covering approximately 95% of students in provinces like Granada, Jaén, Huelva, and Cádiz, aims to support family work-life balance. While the expansion covers one-year-olds, the administration plans to implement full gratuity for the zero-year-old bracket in the 2027/28 course. In Almería, families face a price increase for morning classroom services, though subsidies remain available.

In the Community of Madrid, the government is increasing investment in the ACCEDE program for free textbooks by 34%, benefiting over 520,000 students. The region also reports a record number of teachers in public centers and increased scholarship funding.

Additionally, the Generalitat Valenciana has allocated 435,000 euros to provide support products for students with disabilities, including specialized furniture and communication tools. In Huelva, municipal works have been completed to prepare 26 public schools for the upcoming term.
