Andalusia experiences surge in organized crime shootings

A wave of violent shootings across Andalusia has resulted in at least eight deaths and several serious injuries during August and September 2026. The violence, concentrated in Málaga, Huelva, Almería, and Granada, is primarily attributed to organized crime disputes and settling scores between drug trafficking clans.

Málaga has been particularly affected by recent armed incidents. On September 22, a 47-year-old man was shot while dining at a restaurant in the Muelle Uno tourist area; he remains in critical condition. This followed a shooting on September 18 in the Barcenillas neighborhood of Pinosol, where a 20-year-old man was shot while sitting on a bench. Additionally, a third incident occurred in Alhaurín el Grande, leaving two people wounded and resulting in the arrest of three individuals.

Specialized units from the National Police and the Civil Guard have increased patrols and surveillance in high-risk areas. Authorities are investigating these events as targeted attacks linked to narcotics-related criminal organizations.
