Organized crime violence in Andalusia

Overview

A wave of violent shootings across Andalusia, primarily concentrated in Málaga, has resulted in at least eight deaths and several serious injuries during August and September 2026. Authorities attribute the violence to organized crime disputes and the settling of scores between drug trafficking clans.

In Málaga, specific incidents include a shooting in the Barcenillas neighborhood of Pinosol on September 18, a restaurant shooting in the Muelle Uno tourist area on September 22, and an incident in Alhaurín el Grande that left two people wounded. Other violence has been reported in Huelva, Almería, and Granada.

In response to the surge in violence, the Spanish government has announced a reinforcement of the National Police. Subdelegate Javier Salas stated that additional officers from across the Málaga province and other Andalusian provinces will be deployed to bolster the ‘Costa del Sol Plan’ and increase security. Specialized units from the National Police and the Civil Guard have also increased patrols and surveillance in high-risk areas.
