Andalusia health strain; Valencia emergency plan criticised

Enrique Gaviño, spokesperson for the PSOE provincial executive in Huelva, warned that the Junta de Andalucía is allowing public services to deteriorate as summer approaches. He highlighted the lack of a summer health plan, the closure of most health centres in the province, and severe staffing shortages, noting that 83% of newly offered medical positions have been rejected. Gaviño also linked these issues to a fire in the Marismas del Burro that released smoke over the city, stressing inadequate equipment and protection for emergency workers.

In Valencia, Conseller of Emergencies Juan Carlos Valderrama has yet to publish the promised integrated infrastructure plan for safety and emergency response. The 2026 budget allocates €9.7 million to emergencies, protection civil and forest‑fire fighting, but opposition parties consider the increase insufficient and point to delayed projects such as the Benagéber aerodrome renovation and forest‑fire base upgrades. Critics describe the plan as a “legend” that exists in discussion but not in practice.
