Andalusia rolls out €138 million irrigation upgrade for 14,500 farmers

The Andalusian government, together with the State Society of Agricultural Infrastructures (Seiasa) and local irrigation communities, has launched the RegadíA programme. The plan allocates €138.3 million to modernise irrigation across 102,495 hectares in six provinces, with the regional Junta contributing €52.5 million (50% of costs), Seiasa 20% and the irrigators the remaining 30%.

Eleven projects are approved, including two in Almería: an expansion of the Balsa del Sapo water‑treatment plant and the installation of solar‑photovoltaic pumps for regenerated water in the Huércal‑Overa northern community. The scheme targets roughly 14,490 irrigators, promising up to 70 % energy savings and a 20‑30 % reduction in water use through digital control, automation and renewable‑energy solutions. Senior officials such as Agriculture Minister Begoña García and Regional Minister Ramón Fernández‑Pacheco highlighted the initiative as a major boost for the sector’s competitiveness and sustainability.
