Andalusia public employees seek unpaid 2013-2014 bonuses

Approximately 280,000 public employees in Andalusia are seeking the recovery of regional portions of extra paychecks that were withheld during 2013 and 2014. According to the Central Independent and Civil Servant Union (CSIF), these workers—including those in justice, education, health, and universities—lost an average of 2,000 euros each due to cuts implemented during the economic crisis.

CSIF president Germán Girela noted that while other Spanish autonomous communities have taken steps to return these funds, Andalusia has not. The union has submitted a Popular Legislative Initiative to the regional Parliament, which has been admitted for processing. If successful, the union must collect over 40,000 signatures within a six-month period.

The restitution would also benefit retirees who were active during the 2013-2014 period. Although a 2018 agreement included provisions for restitution, the matter was reportedly excluded from subsequent negotiations between the regional government and unions.
