Andalusia announces 9.5 million euros in fishing sector aid

The Junta de Andalucía has announced over 9.5 million euros in new aid to support the Andalusian fishing and aquaculture sectors. During a visit to the port of Adra, Agriculture Counselor Ramón Fernández-Pacheco detailed that more than 8.5 million euros are earmarked to compensate for temporary halts in various Mediterranean and Gulf of Cádiz fishing modalities.

Additional funding includes 755,000 euros for vessel equipment investments aimed at improving sustainability and reducing marine impact, as well as 225,000 euros for environmental services in aquaculture.

Simultaneously, the regional government is calling on the Spanish central government to intensify diplomatic efforts regarding the renewal of the fishing agreement between the European Union and Mauritania. The current protocol expires on November 14, and the Junta is requesting transitional measures for the fleet—which includes 60 vessels, 25 of which are based in Andalusia—to prevent economic disruption if a new pact is not reached.
