Andalusia requests 5.1 million euros for Niebla wildfire restoration

The Junta de Andalucía has completed an initial assessment for the restoration of 33,000 hectares destroyed by the Niebla wildfire, one of the most severe in the region's history. The first phase of urgent interventions is estimated to cost 10.2 million euros.

These immediate actions focus on reducing soil loss and erosion processes that could impact infrastructure, such as the Corumbel reservoir, during rainfall. Long-term plans are also being designed for reforestation and the replacement of exotic species, like eucalyptus, with native species to lower future fire risks.

Fina Martínez, the Counselor for Sustainability and Environment, has requested that the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge cover 50% of the necessary expenses for soil recovery across the provinces of Huelva and Seville. The Junta de Andalucía has committed 5.1 million euros from its own budget toward these efforts.
