Andalusia to complete pediatric mental health hospital network by 2027

Andalusia plans to complete its specialized mental health hospitalization network for children and adolescents across all provinces by 2027. The expansion includes new units in Huelva and Córdoba.

In Huelva, a provisional unit with four beds will begin operating at Hospital Vázquez Díaz alongside the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit. This temporary measure will remain in place while work progresses on the new Materno Infantil Hospital. In Córdoba, the new resource is scheduled to become operational during the final quarter of 2027.

This initiative aims to provide intensive care specifically adapted to the clinical and personal needs of minors, distinguishing these services from adult psychiatric care. Since 2019, the network has already expanded to include Cádiz, Granada, Sevilla, and Málaga, following the original units in Jaén and Almería. Currently, approximately 100,000 minors receive treatment within Andalusia's Community Mental Health units.
