Andalusia to end Arabic language and Moroccan culture program in 2027

The regional government of Andalusia has announced that the Arabic language and Moroccan culture educational program will be discontinued in September 2027. The decision follows a political agreement between the People's Party (PP) and Vox.

Currently, approximately 1,800 students are enrolled in the program. Education Counselor Carmen Castillo noted that the program is offered as an extracurricular activity rather than a core part of the curriculum. The 2026-2027 academic year will serve as the final period for participation, as resources and enrollments for the current cycle had already been established through coordination with the Ministry of Education and the Embassy of Morocco.

As an alternative, the regional government stated that Arabic language instruction remains available through language schools for students aged 14 and older.
