Spanish regional Arabic language program cancellations
Overview
Regional governments in Spain are discontinuing educational programs focused on Arabic language and Moroccan culture following political agreements between the People's Party (PP) and Vox.
In Aragón, the government cancelled the program across ten schools. While Vox defended the move as a way to “prevent the Islamization of Spain,” regional education officials justified the cancellation by citing a need to verify the professional status and criminal records of instructors. Critics and school directors have characterized the decision as “ideological and discriminatory.”
In Andalusia, the regional government announced that the program will be discontinued in September 2027. The current cycle will serve as the final period for participation, as resources and enrollments were already established in coordination with the Ministry of Education and the Embassy of Morocco. The government noted that Arabic instruction remains available through language schools for students aged 14 and older.
