Andalusia to establish suicide prevention network and surveillance system

The Andalusian government is establishing an Andalusian Suicide Prevention Network and a surveillance system to address suicide as a global health issue. Antonio Sanz, the Vice President of the Junta de Andalucía and Counselor for Presidency, Health, and Emergencies, emphasized the importance of social awareness and training to reduce the impact of suicidal behavior within the community.

To support these efforts, the Andalusian Suicide Prevention Program, originally approved in 2023, has been extended for one year to cover the 2026-2027 period. This extension aims to restructure the implementation model and lay the groundwork for the future Andalusian Action Plan for Suicide Prevention 2027-2030. This upcoming plan is intended to align with the latest scientific evidence and adopt an integrated public health approach. Specific strategies include protocols for child and adolescent mental health within clinical management units.
