Andalusian awards honor women leaders and local institutions

The University of Seville’s eighth University, Woman and Business Awards recognized six women and a sports club from Seville for achievements in science, technology, entrepreneurship, culture and sport. Recipients included rector Carmen Vargas, the first woman to lead the university in its five‑century history; Google executive Pilar Manchón; entrepreneurs Ana Molina and Rocío Peralta; singer Pastora Soler; and the volleyball club Agrupación Voleibol Esquimo Dos Hermanas. The awards, organized by the university’s Social Council with the Seville provincial government and the Fundación Cajasol, received twice as many nominations as the previous edition.

The Port Authority of Motril and the Real Club Náutico announced the Sirenita 2026 prize winners, honoring individuals and institutions for exemplary service to society. Awardees included skier María José Rienda, University of Granada professor Elisa Valero, journalist Pedro Feixas, the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife, and the historic Colegio San Agustín. The prizes, presented by José García Fuentes and Antonio Gutiérrez, celebrate contributions across security, humanitarian work, public service, education, culture, sport and communication in the Motril and Granada region.
