Andalusian cultural centers host exhibitions on mental health and gender violence
Two cultural exhibitions in Andalusia are utilizing visual arts to address critical social issues.
In Almería, the Centro Andaluz de la Fotografía is hosting ‘Las curvas de la mente’, a documentary photography project by Nuria López Torres. Developed over five years, the exhibition explores mental health through images and direct testimonies, aiming to move away from traditional dark iconography. The work covers topics such as addiction, suicide, and the impact of technology, while respecting the anonymity or identity of the participants.
In Almuñécar, the ‘La Red’ exhibition, organized by the SARAE Association, focuses on preventing gender violence among young people. The display features photographs, illustrations, and a documentary video designed to encourage reflection on affective relationships and the normalization of violence. The initiative involves youth participation to translate social discomfort into artistic expression.
