Andalusian health authority closes 150 beds at Cádiz's Hospital Puerta del Mar

Around 150 hospital beds at the Puerta del Mar Hospital in Cádiz were shut down for the summer, accompanied by temporary closures of surgical units and other services due to staff shortages. The left‑wing coalition Adelante Izquierda Gaditana, through spokesperson Helena Fernández, accused the regional government of the Partido Popular of a “planned dismantling of Andalusian public health,” saying the cuts are not merely seasonal but stem from political decisions that favor private health business. The coalition also warned that evening primary‑care hours in Cádiz, Puerto Real and El Puerto de Santa María have been reduced, further straining emergency departments and lengthening wait times. Adelante demands an immediate halt to the closures, maintenance of normal activity through the summer, and a rapid reinforcement plan for primary care and public hospitals.
