Andalusia's new legislature pledges overhaul of public health system

The regional parliament of Andalusia convened its new four‑year term with a focus on reforming the public health service. Over the past eight years, the Junta de Andalucía has struggled to address longstanding shortages of staff and facilities, leading to long waiting times for primary‑care appointments, specialist visits and surgical procedures.

Officials highlighted the need to modernise the Andalusian Health System (SAS), tackle structural issues caused by population growth and ageing, and improve resource allocation. The health agenda is positioned as the top priority for the incoming legislative period, aiming to bring tangible improvements to citizens beyond political slogans.

The reforms are expected to address gaps in medical staffing, reduce appointment delays, and raise service standards to match more developed Spanish regions.
