Andhra Pradesh and Telangana issued weather alerts for heavy rain
The Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are bracing for increased rainfall and thunderstorms as the northeast monsoon advances into the southern peninsula. Meteorological centers have issued alerts for several districts across both regions.
In Telangana, a yellow alert has been issued for districts including Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Rangareddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri. Residents can expect moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph. While northern areas like Adilabad and Nizamabad may remain dry, southern and central districts are expected to see unstable weather.
In Andhra Pradesh, rainfall activity is expected to rise due to a trough extending from the Gulf of Mannar across the Bay of Bengal. Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, including Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Guntur, and Anantapur, are likely to experience light to moderate showers and lightning.
Disaster management authorities have advised residents, farmers, and shepherds to remain alert, specifically warning against seeking shelter under trees or near old buildings during lightning and heavy rain due to the risk of falling structures and electrical hazards.
