Andhra Pradesh launches ₹11,359-crore urban development projects
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has launched urban development projects worth ₹11,359 crore across 123 municipalities and municipal corporations. This initiative is part of a larger ₹50,000 crore urban modernization blueprint for the state. Currently, projects valued at ₹22,330 crore are already in progress, with an additional ₹17,000 crore in works scheduled for launch within the next six months.
The projects will focus on roads, parks, sewerage infrastructure, water storage, and central medians. Notably, the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation will receive ₹3,890 crore for local works. The Chief Minister also emphasized the importance of the ‘weekend economy,’ noting that urban residents spend a significant portion of their income during weekends. He directed officials to develop strategies to stimulate this economic activity.
Other key objectives include completing TIDCO housing units by 2027 and expediting the Jal Jeevan Mission to provide 24x7 treated drinking water to all urban local bodies. Additionally, the government is working toward zero untreated sewage and scientific solid-waste management through the expansion of Waste-to-Energy plants.
