Police in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, shot a 20-year-old man identified as Hemanth following an attack on a 15-year-old girl inside a classroom at a Zilla Parishad High School in Raptadu. The incident occurred on Saturday when the accused allegedly entered the school with an electric saw and attacked the Class 10 student, who is a relative of the suspect. A classmate who attempted to intervene was also injured during the struggle.
Following a manhunt, police located the suspect in the Atmakur forest area. Authorities reported that Hemanth allegedly resisted arrest and attacked officers with a knife, prompting police to fire approximately six rounds. The suspect sustained multiple bullet injuries to his lower body and is currently receiving emergency treatment at the Government General Hospital in Anantapur, where doctors are assessing the potential need for leg amputations.
The primary victim sustained severe wounds to her face, neck, and body, including the loss of her right hand. After receiving initial treatment in Anantapur, she was transferred via a medical green corridor to Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru for intensive care. Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Nara Lokesh visited the victim, stating that while surgeries were completed and her condition is stable, the next 48 hours remain critical.
