Andhra Pradesh political clashes erupt during election nomination scrutiny
Political tensions have escalated in Andhra Pradesh during the scrutiny of nomination papers for local body elections. In Kuppam, members of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) clashed at a nomination centre, leading police to use a lathicharge to disperse the crowd. Several individuals were reportedly injured during the confrontation.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has accused the YSRCP of attempting to disrupt the electoral process by bringing in outside elements to create disturbances in regions including Punganur, Rayachoti, Tirupati, and Pulivendula. He further alleged that the opposition has used legal maneuvers to obstruct government decisions.
In Nellore, YSRCP officials have alleged a conspiracy by the ruling TDP and election officials to reject party nominations. Specifically, candidates Safiya Begum and Siddiq claimed their nominations were unfairly disqualified during scrutiny. YSRCP MLC Parvatha Reddy Chandrasekhar Reddy accused officials of favoring the ruling party and demanded transparency in the electoral process.
