Andorra and Catalonia see population and birth increases in 2025‑2026

Andorra's resident population rose to 89,752 by June 30, 2026, an increase of 1,781 people (2%) from the previous year. Growth was strongest in Escaldes‑Engordany (+357 residents) and Canillo (+347), while Andorra la Vella added the fewest (+130). The largest share of the increase came from residents of other nationalities (+818) and Andorran citizens (+557). The gap between estimated residents and those recorded in municipal registers narrowed to 5.2%.

In Catalonia, births rose 0.8% in 2025 to 54,249, ending a 17‑year decline. The fertility rate remained low at 1.08 children per woman. Nearly half of the newborns (48.5%) were born to mothers born in Catalonia, while 46.3% had foreign‑born mothers, with Moroccan women accounting for the largest foreign group. The average age of mothers was 32.8 years.

Both regions highlight modest demographic rebounds driven partly by immigration and a slight increase in women of child‑bearing age, though challenges such as low fertility and an ageing population persist.
