Andorra government announces €6 million housing aid package

The Government of Andorra has announced a new housing aid program designed to assist middle-class and working families. Head of Government Xavier Espot stated that the initiative aims to ensure that rent payments do not exceed 30% of a tenant's income.

The government plans to allocate six million euros to fund this measure, with specific details expected to be released in the coming weeks. Spokesperson Guillem Casal confirmed that the program is being prepared following recent Council of Ministers meetings. Unlike previous assistance programs that targeted only the lowest income brackets, this new package is specifically intended to include the middle class.

Opposition leader Cerni Escalé of Concòrdia criticized the move, suggesting the funds might merely serve to offset significant price increases caused by real estate speculation and current government management. Meanwhile, Espot defended the administration's housing policies, including contract extensions and rent increase limits, arguing they have helped stabilize the situation for many tenants.
