Andorra's Purito Cycling Tour Draws Over 2,200 Riders
More than 2,200 cyclists gathered for the tenth edition of the Purito cycling tour in Andorra, with registrations fully booked and a waiting list of about 300 people. The event featured three routes – 116 km, 75 km and 25 km – that crossed iconic mountain passes such as the Rabassa, Coll de la Gallina, Alt de la Comella and others, ending for the first time in the town square of Encamp.
High‑profile participants included former professional riders Samu Sánchez, Alejandro Valverde, José Antonio Hermida, Igor González de Galdeano and others, while organizer Joaquim Purito Rodríguez praised the tougher course. The influx of cyclists filled Andorran campsites to capacity; Camping Valira, Xixerella Park, Camping Casal Bordes d’Envalira and others reported 100 % occupancy, with many riders staying in hostels or apartments. Camp operators noted that some guests were unfamiliar with camping, but overall welcomed the boost in tourism.
The event’s popularity highlighted Andorra’s growing reputation as a destination for mountain‑bike tourism and underscored the logistical challenges of accommodating large sporting gatherings in the small principality.
