Andrea Abodi highlights Taranto Mediterranean Games legacy ahead of opening
Italian Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi marked the 50‑day countdown to the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, saying the event will leave a lasting legacy of cohesion, sport and peace for the city and the region. He noted that the government started work from scratch in 2023, completing major facilities – including pools and the Erasmo Iacovone stadium – within the 306 million‑euro budget.
Abodi also reaffirmed a close partnership with the new Italian Football Federation president Giovanni Malagò, stating, “Abbiamo piena consapevolezza di quello che dobbiamo fare, cercheremo di farlo al meglio per il bene del calcio italiano,” and pledging weekly meetings to support Italian football.
Both remarks emphasize the government's commitment to delivering infrastructure, promoting youth sport and strengthening Italy’s broader sporting profile.
