Kimi Antonelli targets championship recovery ahead of Malaysia GP

Mercedes Formula 1 driver Kimi Antonelli is looking to regain momentum following a challenging Grand Prix in Azerbaijan. Despite a difficult weekend involving hydraulic issues and a qualifying crash that left him starting 16th, Antonelli secured a fifth-place finish.

Antonelli currently holds a 66-point lead in the championship over teammate George Russell. However, Russell’s victory in Baku has intensified the title race, leaving eight races remaining in the season. Antonelli has stated he does not intend to drive conservatively to protect his lead, but rather aims to compete for wins in every race to secure the championship as soon as possible.

The championship now moves to the Sepang circuit in Malaysia for the Bahrain Grand Prix, a venue that has not hosted a Formula 1 race since 2018. The change in location follows safety concerns regarding the original Bahrain venue. Antonelli will face the challenge of racing at a track he has never visited, relying on simulator preparation to maintain his championship advantage.
