Venice Film Festival 83 features Nanni Moretti and Andrea Pallaoro

The 83rd Venice International Film Festival features several major developments in Italian cinema. Director Andrea Pallaoro has won the 25th Mimmo Rotella Foundation Award for his film ‘The Echo Chamber’. The film, which was based on the final screenplay by Bernardo Bertolucci, explores themes of presence, absence, and human connection. It stars Luca Marinelli, Alicia Vikander, and Susan Sarandon.

Nanni Moretti makes a significant return to the festival after 37 years with his romantic comedy ‘Succederà questa notte’. The film, inspired by the works of Eshkol Nevo, stars Louis Garrel and Jasmine Trinca. During press conferences, the festival also highlighted systemic issues regarding gender diversity, with jury president Maggie Gyllenhaal noting the scarcity of female directors in the main competition.

Additionally, the Lucana Film Commission presented initiatives to promote Basilicata through audiovisual productions, including a 1.5 million euro fund to attract filming to the region. Other notable events include the presentation of the short film ‘Puca’ by Sara Scalera and the announcement of Ellen Burstyn as a recipient of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.
