At the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, the event has also highlighted broader developments in Italian cinema. Director Andrea Pallaoro won the 25th Mimmo Rotella Foundation Award for ‘The Echo Chamber’, a film based on a final screenplay by Bernardo Bertolucci.

During press conferences, jury president Maggie Gyllenhaal addressed systemic issues regarding gender diversity, noting the scarcity of female directors in the main competition. Other festival highlights include the Lucana Film Commission’s announcement of a 1.5 million euro fund to promote filming in Basilicata, and the presentation of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement to Ellen Burstyn.
