Andrew Lloyd Webber celebrates Phantom of the Opera 40th anniversary

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber is releasing a new remix of the original 1986 London cast recording. Titled ‘The Phantom of the Opera (The Andrew Lloyd Webber 2026 Mix)’, the release utilizes original analogue master tapes to restore sections previously cut due to time constraints and includes rare material from the composer’s personal archive. The digital version is scheduled for release on 9 October 2026, with physical editions on vinyl and CD following in November.

Additionally, Universal Pictures Content Group, LW Entertainment, and Cameron Mackintosh have announced a partnership to produce a live cinematic recording of the musical. Directed by Brett Sullivan, the film will capture a special gala performance held at His Majesty’s Theatre on 9 October 2026. The production features an international anniversary cast led by Jordan Donica, Beatrice Penny-Touré, and Rhys Whitfield. The live recording is slated for cinema release in 2027.
