Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Threatened; Suspect's Searches Prompt Security Review

Alex Jenkinson, 39, has been charged with threatening Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (formerly Prince Andrew) while the former royal was walking his dogs near Marsh Farm on the Sandringham Estate in May. Police allege Jenkinson chased the prince with a cane and possessed an offensive weapon, causing the royal to flee to his car with his security team.

During a Westminster magistrates' court hearing, prosecutors presented roughly 340 pages of digital forensics showing the defendant had searched terms such as “Andrew’s Norfolk Security” and “Prince Andrew birthday” on his phone. The defence questioned the relevance of these searches, and the judge gave the prosecution until 15 September to decide whether the evidence can be admitted.

The trial, originally set for 29 July, was postponed to 21 December, with Andrew expected to give evidence via video link. In response to the incident, security measures around the former prince have been substantially increased, despite his royal protection being withdrawn in 2022 and his stepping back from official duties in 2019.
