Andrés Mijes Calls for Overhaul of Nuevo León’s Cultural Policy

Mayor Andrés Mijes of Escobedo convened a broad group of artists, writers, musicians, actors, choreographers and cultural promoters in the Barrio Antiguo of Monterrey to discuss the current state of Nuevo León’s cultural policy. Participants criticized existing government actions, calling for a reorientation of public budgets and programs and for greater institutional order.

Mijes, a candidate for the Coordination of the State Defense of Transformation and National Sovereignty, argued that rescuing culture is essential for building identity, social cohesion and economic opportunities. He linked the cultural agenda to the 4T Norteña model, describing art and culture as pillars for reconstructing community fabric. He pledged to keep dialogue open with the sector to integrate their proposals into a new executive cultural project for the state.
