Andrés Mijes activism in Nuevo León

In early July 2026, Andrés Mijes, mayor of Escobedo and candidate for a state‑level coordination post, gathered a wide range of cultural workers in Monterrey’s Barrio Antiguo. The forum criticised the existing cultural policy, called for reallocation of public budgets, and linked cultural revitalisation to the broader “4T Norteña” model of social cohesion and economic opportunity.

Later that month, Mijes shifted from dialogue to a symbolic protest, installing an orange‑lion sculpture on the Interserrana highway. The antimonument, labelled “Monumento a la Corrupción e Ineficiencia,” targeted a stalled highway project, accusing the state government of corruption, mismanagement and imposing future debt on citizens.
