Andrés Roche denounces freezing of business accounts

Andrés Roche, a candidate for the Mayor of Guayaquil representing the Social Christian Party (PSC), has denounced the freezing of his corporate bank accounts and those of his companies' legal representatives. Roche claims the measure is a form of political persecution intended to eliminate candidates capable of challenging government-aligned candidates in the upcoming November elections.

Roche stated that the administrative intervention lacks legal justification and is impacting his businesses' ability to pay employees, suppliers, and banking obligations. He suggested the move follows previous warnings he received regarding his political standing and rising poll numbers.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (CIDH) has previously called on the Ecuadorian state to ensure equal participation in the electoral process. This development occurs amid internal shifts within the PSC, which has recently seen several high-profile departures.
