Andrzej Bargiel completes historic ski descent of Nanga Parbat

New footage has been released documenting Andrzej Bargiel’s historic oxygen-free ski descent of Nanga Parbat, the world’s ninth-highest mountain. The expedition, completed in June 2026, saw the Polish mountaineer reach the 8,126-metre summit and descend via the Diamir Face along the Messner Route.

Bargiel successfully navigated a major obstacle of large seracs that had previously forced other skiers to unclip and proceed on foot. He maintained a continuous ski descent for approximately 3,700 metres of vertical drop, only removing his skis at around 4,400 metres when the snow cover ended. The entire round trip from base camp took two days and nine hours.

With this achievement, Bargiel becomes the first person to both summit and ski down all five Pakistani eight-thousanders—Broad Peak, Gasherbrum II, Gasherbrum I, K2, and Nanga Parbat—without the use of supplemental oxygen. He was supported during the climb by Janusz Gołąb.
