Andrzej Bargiel ski mountaineering expeditions

Overview

Polish ski alpinist Andrzej Bargiel has achieved a historic milestone by completing an oxygen-free ski descent of Nanga Parbat. During the June 2026 expedition, Bargiel summited the 8,126-metre peak and descended approximately 3,700 metres of vertical drop via the Diamir Face. This feat makes him the first person to both summit and ski down all five Pakistani eight-thousanders without supplemental oxygen.

Following this success, Bargiel has transitioned to a new expedition in the Himalayas as part of his ‘Hic Sunt Leones’ project. He has departed for the Dhaulagiri Ski Challenge in Nepal, where he aims to summit Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) and perform a full ski descent without supplemental oxygen, seeking to become only the second person to achieve this on the mountain.
