Andy Burnham faces criticism over migration and rural engagement

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham is facing criticism regarding both migration management and his engagement with rural populations.

Cabinet Office Minister Sally Jameson defended the Labour Government's handling of small boat crossings, stating that 46,000 crossings have been prevented due to a deal with France. She noted that July saw the lowest number of crossings in six years and that 70,000 individuals without legal status have been deported since the government took office. However, critics challenged these figures, suggesting that such measures merely delay migrants rather than solving the underlying crisis.

Separately, Liberal Democrat MP Helen Morgan has accused the Prime Minister of ignoring rural communities ahead of his planned nationwide listening tour. Morgan argued that the government tends to focus on specific demographics and regions with established mayoral structures, neglecting those in areas without such leadership. She urged the Prime Minister to address pressing issues such as energy bills, the cost of living, and the performance of the NHS during his tour.
