Andy Burnham poised to succeed Keir Starmer as UK Labour leader

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Labour should win the next general election under Andy Burnham, praising Burnham’s record and stating there is no personal animosity. In a BBC interview Starmer added, “Yes, I do. We’ve always got on,” and asserted that the next leader will inherit a platform to continue Labour’s success.

Polls released after Starmer’s resignation show Burnham leading other potential prime‑ministerial candidates, including Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage, and gaining favour among Labour voters who view him as a more left‑leaning alternative to Starmer.
