Andy Burnham seeks business culture shift amid TUC calls for reform
Prime Minister Andy Burnham is seeking a “culture shift” in British business, emphasizing government partnership and support for entrepreneurs to drive investment and job creation. Ahead of a high-level meeting at Downing Street with chief executives from major companies including BP, Shell, HSBC, and Rolls-Royce, Burnham stated that local leaders need better tools to transform communities and that the government aims to be a “partner for growth.”
In a separate development, TUC General Secretary Paul Nowak has called on the Prime Minister to “face down vested interests” to ensure economic benefits reach all citizens. Addressing the TUC Congress in Brighton, Nowak urged the government to tackle issues such as zero-hours contracts, increase taxes on banks and tech billionaires, and consider bringing water companies back into public ownership. He also advocated for ending outsourcing in the public sector and increasing taxes on banks to help reduce energy bills.
