Andy López Beltrán Announces Bid for Tabasco Federal Deputy Seat in 2027
Andrés Manuel “Andy” López Beltrán, son of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, said he will seek the federal deputy seat for Tabasco’s VI District in the 2027 elections. He arrived in Tabasco, reaffirming his intention to launch a political career there after his father’s retirement, and noted his candidacy follows his resignation from the Secretariat of Organization of Morena’s National Executive Committee.
The party disclosed López Beltrán’s curriculum, confirming he has completed all undergraduate credits but does not yet hold a university degree, a fact that sparked criticism on social media. His résumé lists private‑sector experience with the family‑linked Chocolates Rocío brand. Within Morena, he is credited with coordinating the enrollment of more than 10 million new members and strengthening the party’s territorial structures, earning public support from former president López Obrador.
López Beltrán’s campaign targets the municipalities of Centro, Jalapa, Tacotalpa and Teapa, traditionally strongholds of the so‑called “Cuarta Transformación.” The controversy over his lack of a degree adds a personal‑profile dimension to his political ambitions.
