Morena secretary Andrés Manuel López Beltrán resigns to run for Tabasco federal deputy

On 25 May 2026, Andrés Manuel López Beltrán — son of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador and then secretary of Organization of the governing Morena party — submitted a resignation letter to party president Ariadna Montiel Reyes and to the party’s national bodies. He left both the secretariat and his seat on the National Elections Commission to seek the Morena candidacy for a federal deputy seat in Tabasco’s VI District (municipalities of Centro, Jalapa, Tacotalpa and Teapa) in the 2027 mid‑term elections.

López Beltrán highlighted his management record: adding about 10 million new party affiliates, credentializing roughly 7 million members, deploying 300 credentialing modules nationwide, establishing committees in 97 % of electoral sections and forming municipal councils in 97.6 % of municipalities. He reiterated loyalty to President Claudia Sheinbaum and vowed to continue supporting the “Fourth Transformation” from the grassroots.

Party figures, including national president Montiel and Senator Adán Augusto López Hernández, publicly praised his work and expressed confidence in his electoral prospects in Tabasco.
